Yesterday the TurtleBug and I ventured out to ViaColori, downtown to watch the Grandmaster try his hand out on a new artistic activity. Amazingly the day went off without a hitch. Not only did we get out of our normal muck filled pond, we got to see the sights and hear the sounds of the lustrous downtown world.
The sounds of the Columbus Roller Derby Girls as they taunted passer-bys to stop and have a whack at their humiliating yet deceptively inviting drowning machine, filled our ears while we watched the artist at work. People laughing, children giggling, music wafting through the various alleys and backways streets were a wonderful reminder that we were not alone on this island made of concrete.
We sat and we watched and we took a few strolls to examine the merchants and their valubles that they were trying to pawn off onto the un-suspecting tourist or local. While a few of the rambling dealers caught our ears, we were wise to smile and say thank you and scurry on through the maze of colors and sounds and smells. For us it was an adventure of our senses and less about aquiring trinkets that would sit on our shelves and collect dust.
The day in a whole was fulfilling and satisfying and exhausting. As we made our way to the people mover the realization set in that we would be laying in wonder with eye lids to heavy to keep open in just a matter of minutes. Even the TurtleBug herself was feeling the weariness of having spent a whole day watching the people and smelling the smells and listening to sounds that one could only collectively call entertaining. She was asleep before we ever even got in the door.
